Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price asks residents to wave American flags and line Main Street as what event organizers call the Walk of Gratitude commemorates soldiers and their families who have made sacrifices while serving the nation.

Beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday Dec. 14,  surviving spouses and children of military personnel killed in action since Sept. 11, 2011 will take the walk along Main Street from the Tarrant County Courthouse to Sundance Square Plaza, where they will receive a city-sponsored party in their honor.

About 2,000 family members are expected to arrive on charter buses, escorted by Fort Worth police officers. They will head downtown from Interstate 30, exit Spur 280 and arrive at the courthouse, where they are expected to unload from the buses at about 9:30 a.m. when the city will throw a party.
