AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The Texas House has approved allowing the sale of fireworks on holidays that mark Texas independence.
The measure approved Tuesday would allow counties to permit fireworks sales for Texas Independence Day on March 2 and San Jacinto Day celebrations April 21. It also would allow fireworks sales for Memorial Day in May. Counties would be allowed to place restrictions in case of drought.
The bill has raised safety and fire concerns from some county commissioners, fire officials and law enforcement who say fireworks restrictions are already difficult to enforce.
The bill by Rep. James White, R-Woodville, still needs a final vote before heading to the Senate for consideration.
