IRVING, Texas (AP) — Police in Irving fatally shot a man who was wielding a shotgun after they say he blasted his way into a closed convenience store Thursday, according to the police department.

An employee hiding in a washroom at a 7-Eleven reported that a man was shooting out the store’s glass doors shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday, according to a statement from the Irving Police Department says. Officers arrived to find a man emerging from the store.

An officer ordered the man to drop the shotgun, but the man didn’t drop it. The officer then then shot the suspect dead, police said.

Police was identified the man as Joseph Zahaczewski, 69, of Irving.
