Irving police fatally shoot suspect in domestic disturbance

IRVING, Texas (AP) — Authorities say an Irving officer has fatally shot a suspect who police say held a woman at knifepoint.

An Irving police statement said officers Tuesday morning responded to a 911 call from the woman who said a man was trying to kill her. Arriving officers heard screams from a residence and forced open a door.

Police saw the suspect had two knives and refused to let the woman go. Police said an unspecified use of non-lethal force didn’t work and officers were in danger. An officer then shot the suspect.

Police say the man died at a hospital. The woman was treated for injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
