Kidnapper of Elizabeth Smart moved to Utah jail from Texas

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A woman serving federal prison time in the 2002 kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart from her bedroom has been moved to a Utah jail.

Salt Lake County authorities say 70-year-old Wanda Barzee was booked into their jail Thursday, after being transferred from another jail in Texas.

Barzee pleaded guilty to helping the self-styled prophet Brian David Mitchell kidnap the 14-year-old girl and hold her for nine months before she was found and rescued.

Barzee was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison with credit for time served, and is also due to serve time in a Utah state prison after. Barzee’s attorney did not return messages Thursday.
