North Texas gun range heavily damaged in fire

BENBROOK, Texas (AP) — Authorities are investigating the cause after a large fire destroyed a firing range in rural Tarrant County and injured one firefighter.

Benbrook Fire Chief Tommy Davis tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram the fire started Saturday in the firing range in the Wheatland community, located southwest of Fort Worth.

The structure around the gun range collapsed, but firefighters were stopped the flames from causing much damage to the attached showroom and offices.

Davis says a Benbrook firefighter was injured after falling from a ladder and hitting his neck on a rung. The firefighter was taken to a hospital, but Davis says “he’s OK.”

Davis says people were target-shooting when they smelled smoke and realized the back of the building was on fire.

He says none of the occupants were injured.
