PALMER, Texas (AP) — Authorities in North Texas say a police officer has avoided serious injury when he was grazed by gunshot during a struggle with a man during a traffic stop.
Ellis County deputies say the officer from Palmer, about 25 miles (40.23 kilometers) south of Dallas, stopped a car Saturday on Interstate 45 and determined one of the people in the car had an outstanding warrant for aggravated sexual assault in Collin County, north of Dallas.
When the man tried to flee on foot, the officer was unsuccessful in subduing him with an electronic stun gun. In the ensuing struggle, he tried to take the officer’s gun and it went off, grazing the officer.
The man subsequently was captured and is jailed on the outstanding warrant. Authorities say additional charges are pending.
