Obama to travel to Dallas on Tuesday

President Barack Obama will travel to Dallas on Tuesday for a memorial service in honor of the five police officers killed in the Thursday shooting that left seven others wounded, a White House spokesman said Sunday.

“On Tuesday, July 12th, at the invitation of Mayor Rawlings, the President will travel to Dallas, Texas to deliver remarks at an interfaith memorial service at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center,” the statement from Press Secretary Josh Earnest read.

Details on the president’s trip “will be available in the coming days,” the statement read. Obama, who has been in Europe since the incident, previously called Gov. Greg Abbott to offer condolences on Saturday.

Later Sunday, the White House announced that President George W. Bush also will attend and speak at the Tuesday memorial. Former First Lady Laura Bush and Vice President Joe Biden also are set to attend, according to the announcement.
