O’Rourke’s latest fundraising haul more than doubles Cruz’s

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Sen. Ted Cruz says his Democratic opponent, U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke, more than doubled him in fundraising over the past three months — continuing a surprising donation losing streak and potentially tightening a November race that once looked like a slam-dunk.

Cruz announced Thursday that he raised nearly $4.6 million from April through June, and has around $10.4 million in cash on hand.

O’Rourke said Wednesday night that he took in $10.4 million over the same period, and has a campaign war chest of more than $14 million.

A onetime punk rocker, O’Rourke has repeatedly outraised Cruz since announcing his Senate bid in March 2017. His high-energy campaign has attracted national attention.
