First-term Republican Reps. Giovanni Capriglione of Southlake, Jonathan Stickland of Bedford and Stephanie Klick and Matt Krause of Fort Worth said they are supporting Patrick as an “authentic conservative committed to making our state stronger,” according to a release from Patrick’s campaign. Patrick is one of three Republicans challenging GOP Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, who is seeking re-election to the post he has held since 2003. Also in the 2014 primary race are Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples and Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson.
The four Tarrant County lawmakers all have strong Tea Party support in the Metroplex. Patrick’s campaign called them “Tea Party champions.” “Having served alongside Dan Patrick in the Texas Legislature during the 83rd session, we watched personally as Dan fought every day for the conservative ideals that we hold so dearly as Republicans.” the House members said in a joint endorsement statement.”Dan is a natural leader and he will make a great Lieutenant Governor for our state.” Patrick also announced endorsements from former Houston Oilers Coach Bum Phillips and financial radio host Dave Ramsey.
