DALLAS (AP) — Gov. Rick Perry says he is delaying an announcement on whether he will run for re-election until after the new special session ends.
He had said an announcement would come before July 1, but that was before he called a second special session to begin that day.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday following a speech to an anti-abortion convention in Dallas, he said any announcement will have to wait until the Legislature finishes its work.
Perry called the special session to pass new restriction on where, when and how women may obtain abortions. Lawmakers will also consider new funding for transportation projects and a new sentencing rule for 17-year-olds who commit capital murder.
Lawmakers have 30 days to pass the bills beginning on Monday and may adjourn when finished.
