Philanthropist Hill gives $25M to UT Southwestern in Dallas

DALLAS (AP) — Philanthropist Lyda Hill has pledged $25 million to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

The donation, announced Wednesday, will be used to establish the Lyda Hill Department of Bioinformatics. The new department was recently approved by the UT System Board of Regents.

Bioinformatics involves managing and analyzing large sets of data used in scientific and medical research, such as genetics studies.

A statement from UT Southwestern says Hill’s latest donation pushes her total contributions to the center to more than $37.5 million.
