Police: Dallas officer fatally shoots armed man during stop

DALLAS (AP) — Dallas police say an officer has fatally shot an armed man who tried to run during a traffic stop and then pointed a gun at the officer.

Police say the traffic stop and shooting happened around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday. Lt. Latoya Porter says the car appeared to have a license plate belonging to another vehicle.

A police statement says a suspect holding a gun exited the car and started to run. Porter says the officer pursued the person on foot, then shot the suspect when the man turned and pointed his gun at the officer. The suspect died at a hospital.

Police didn’t immediately release names of the suspect or the officer. Police are looking for occupants of the car that was stopped, then drove off during the shooting.
