Police: Officer fatally shoots armed man in Fort Worth

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Authorities say a man has been fatally shot by a police officer in downtown Fort Worth.

According to Fort Worth police, officers with a bike patrol unit were on a routine patrol when they observed an altercation between two groups of people early Friday and saw one of the men had a handgun.

Fort Worth Police Department spokesman Sgt. Steven Enright said officers ordered the man to drop his weapon but the man refused. Enright said an officer believed the man was about to fire his weapon, so he shot him, striking him at least once.

The man was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
