DALLAS (AP) — Dallas police say a body located along the Trinity River is likely a Southern Methodist University officer swept away last month in a flooded creek.
Emergency responders placed a U.S. flag over the body discovered Wednesday afternoon. DNA testing will be used to identify the person.
A Dallas police statement says there’s a high probability that the body recovered along a levee was missing police Officer Mark McCullers. Maj. Jimmy Vaughan says an SMU officer searching for McCullers located the body.
McCullers on July 5 was off-duty and working security at a construction site near Turtle Creek when storms moved through. The officer called a dispatcher to say his vehicle was being overtaken by water.
A memorial service for McCullers was held last month.
