Public forums for Denton County Confederate Monument Committee to be held next two weeks

Two public forums will be held Thursday, Jan. 18, and Thursday, Jan. 25, to discuss the Denton County Confederate Monument, according to a news release.

The release detailed that the Denton County Confederate Monument Advisory Committee will hold the Thursday, Jan. 18, forum from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Center, located at 1300 Wilson St. in Denton.

The committee will hold the Thursday, Jan. 25, forum from 6-8 p.m. at the Steven E. Copeland Government Center, located at 1400 FM 424 in Cross Roads, Texas.

Speakers attending the forum will be limited to three minutes. According to the release, the committee will use the public input “to help shape its final recommendation to Denton County Commissioners.”

For the purpose of this forumn, the committee is seeking input on the following:

— Move the statue from the Square but not destroy it

— and Keep the statue on the Square and add context.
