Slain Travis County deputy remembered at funeral

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – A Texas sheriff’s deputy who was shot and killed last week at his Round Rock home north of Austin was remembered at his funeral Tuesday as a man of his word who tried to teach people.

The funeral for Sgt. Craig Hutchinson of the Travis County Sheriff’s Office was held in Austin. He died July 25 after being shot in what authorities said appeared to be an attempted burglary. He was 54.

Travis County Sheriff Greg Hamilton told those gathered that Hutchinson was a man who did what he said and said what he did, the Austin American- Statesman reported. Sheriff’s deputy Greg Lawson said Hutchinson had a passion for training and mentoring, and always tried to teach people.
