EVERMAN, Texas (AP) — Court records show the 24-year-old son of a North Texas day care operator was sentenced to 40 years in prison for molesting a girl there for at least two years.

A Tarrant County jury convicted and sentenced Chance William Moore last month on a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Two other charges — indecency fondling and aggravated sexual assault — are pending.

Moore was arrested in 2016 after the now 12-year-old told her parents what was happening at the day care in Everman and they contacted authorities.

State Child Care Licensing officials ordered the day care to stop operations after Moore’s arrest. Texas Department of Family and Protective Services spokeswoman Marissa Gonzales said the operator decided to close permanently.
