Suspects in DA killings to appear in court

KAUFMAN, Texas (AP) — Suspects in the slayings of two East Texas prosecutors and the wife of one of them are to appear in court.

A preliminary court hearing is scheduled for Friday in Kaufman in the cases against former Kaufman County Justice of the Peace Eric Williams and his wife, Kim Williams.

District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife Cynthia were killed in their home in March, two months after Assistant DA Mark Hasse was shot to death in a parking lot near the county courthouse.

Williams and his wife, Kim, were indicted June 27 on capital murder charges stemming from the killings. Authorities believe the killings were to avenge the former JP’s conviction on theft charges that cost him his office and law license.
