Tarrant County celebrates Vietnam vets on Aug. 1

Tarrant County residents will honor veterans of the Vietnam War during an event Aug. 1 in White Settlement marking the 50th anniversary of the official start of the war.

The local celebration, part of the U.S. Department of Defense’s 10-year program called Welcome Home Vietnam War 50th Anniversary, will start with a parade at 9 a.m., beginning at Brewer Middle School, 1000 S. Cherry Lane, and traveling north on South Cherry Lane to Clifford Street, then west on Clifford Street to Veterans Park, 8901 Clifford St.

Other activities at the park are planned between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., including a recognition ceremony with guest speakers, free food and drinks, aircraft flyovers, military vehicle and aircraft displays, classic car show, information booths and a POW/MIA tribute wall.
