Arlington is one step closer to opening a new early college high school with the official signing on April 21 of a partnership between Arlington Independent School District and Tarrant County College District. TCC and AISD will sign a memorandum of understanding for the Arlington Collegiate High School at Tarrant County College Southeast Campus, slated to open in fall 2014. The Texas Education Agency has designated the school an early college high school. The designation is for high schools located on or near a college campus that will allow at-risk students an opportunity to earn a high school diploma and up to 60 hours college credit hours.
As part of the partnership, Texas Trust Credit Union is donating $35,000 to help launch the new school and will provide financial education resources and workshops throughout the school year for students, parents and faculty. Texas Trust also will provide graduating seniors from the Arlington Collegiate High School class of 2018 who meet certain criteria, including completing an associate’s degree, a $1,000 scholarship. The new school initially will consist of 100 freshmen students with 100 students added each year to the incoming freshman class. Students will have access to TCC facilities, resources and services. There is no cost to attend the school. The Arlington ISD will pay for tuition, fees and required textbooks to the extent those charges are not waived by TCC. The MOU signing is set for 10 a.m., April 21, in the North Ballroom at the TCC Southeast Campus, 2100 Southeast Parkway in Arlington.
