TCU Board of Trustees votes to continue gun ban on campus

Texas Christian University’s Board of Trustees voted Friday to opt out of a Texas Senate Bill allowing handgun license owners to bring a concealed gun on a college campus, according to a news release.

Senate Bill 11, known as “campus carry,” gave private universities the option to choose whether to allow or prohibit concealed guns on campus. TCU students and administration spent months holding debates, surveys and open forums discussing the issue before Friday’s vote. The Board of Trustees used those discussions as basis for their vote, according to the release.

TCU already has a longstanding policy prohibiting guns on campus, so the vote keeps the policy in effect.

The next Board of Trustees meeting is April 13-15.
