Texas, Oregon rare coin dealers accused of scamming upstate NY couple

CORINTH, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities have accused a rare coin dealer from Texas and another from Oregon of scamming an upstate New York couple out of a portion of their coin collection.

New York State Police say Donald “Scott” Rainey of Beaumont, Texas, and Michael Adcock of Pacific City, Oregon, received a Corinth couple’s collection for evaluation and sold some of the coins in New Jersey.

Troopers say Adcock, owner of the Pacific Coin Co., was taken into custody in Washington, D.C., on Thursday. Investigators are traveling there Tuesday to return him to Saratoga County to be charged.

Police say Rainey, owner of Vintage World Coin of Nederland, Texas, is believed to be making his way back home.

It couldn’t be determined if Adcock has a lawyer. A message left at Rainey’s company wasn’t returned.
