Texas rejected 3,800 personalized license plates in 2018

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles last year rejected about 3,800 proposals for personalized license plates that regulators considered too political or tasteless.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that the denied license plate messages included offensive, uncouth, racist, derogatory or political messages. The list of vetoed plates includes THE PREZ, CNN FAKE and HII UGLY.

DMV workers review license plate applications based on the Texas Administrative Code. They look out for any allusion to gangs or illegal activities, implied threats of harm and indecent references.

Applicants can appeal in writing if their request is rejected. It takes Texas DMV officials about a month to reach a final decision.
