Trump names pick for Homeland Security post

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump has nominated White House aide Kirstjen Nielsen to serve as homeland security secretary.

Trump said Thursday that Nielsen will need “no on the job training” and will be “ready on Day One.” She worked for White House chief of staff John Kelly when he headed the Department of Homeland Security and has been serving as Kelly’s chief deputy at the White House.

Nielsen previously served as a special assistant to former President George W. Bush.
