TSU: 1 hurt, 1 in custody after on-campus shooting

HOUSTON (AP) — Houston police say a suspect has been accused of assault after two people were shot while at a Texas Southern University dormitory parking lot.

Darrius T. Nichols was being held Thursday on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. City jail records didn’t immediately list bond or an attorney to speak for the 20-year-old Nichols, who does not attend TSU.

Authorities are trying to determine what sparked Wednesday night’s shootings. A woman, who’s not a student, was treated and released. A man remains hospitalized in critical condition. Police are trying to determine if he attends TSU.

A TSU officer saw a gunman fire toward a crowd. The man refused to drop his gun and turned toward the officer, who shot at the suspect but missed.
