Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, Texas Health Resources reach agreement

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas and Texas Health Resources announced late Thursday the insurance provider and the health care giant they had reached a new contract ensuring all Texas Health facilities and physicians will remain in the BCBSTX network of providers.

According to a short news release: “Through determined efforts on both sides of the table, the agreement will keep Texas Health Resources in the HMO Blue Texas (Blue Essentials), Blue Choice PPO (BCA), Blue Advantage HMO (BAV) and Blue Cross Medicare Advantage PPO networks with no disruption in service.”

In early December, discussions to extend a contract between local health care giant Texas Health Resources and one of the state’s largest insurance providers, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, fell apart.

Texas Health’s contract with Blue Cross Blue Shield expires on Dec. 31, 2016, but the two sides seemed to be at an impasse that would have impacted thousands of customers in North Texas.
