Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas has signed on as a $5 million charter sponsor of the Blue Zones Project well-being initiative being implemented in Fort Worth.

Of the sponsorship, $2.5 million is a grant that would match community donations dollar for dollar.

“We share a common goal of making the health choice the easy choice,” Bert Marshall, president of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. “Our goal is to incentivize leaders in Fort Worth to raise the $2.5 million…before the end of the year.”

The city, Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce, Texas Health Resources, and the Tennessee health care company Healthways – a longtime THR partner – are collaborating in implementing Blue Zones.

The National Geographic explorer and best-selling author Dan Buettner formed the Blue Zones program, based on an examination of communities worldwide where people live the longest.
