Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders begins new care approach

🕐 1 min read

The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders has been selected by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to participate in an initiative promoting better cancer care.

The physician group practice, headquartered in Fort Worth, provides cancer treatment to more than 12,000 patients annually at locations in Fort Worth, Arlington, Weatherford, Burleson, Granbury, Mineral Wells and Stephenville.

The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders is one of nearly 200 physician group practices and 17 health insurance companies to participate in a care delivery model that supports and encourages higher quality, more coordinated cancer care. The Medicare arm of the Oncology Care Model includes more than 3,200 oncologists and will cover 155,000 Medicare beneficiaries nationwide.

Participation began July 1 and runs through June 30, 2021.

“The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders is proud to be selected as a participant in the Oncology Care Model,” said Barry Russo, CEO of The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. “As a leader in groundbreaking cancer treatment, we are dedicated to making world-class cancer care as accessible as possible and providing patients with the opportunity for a cure and the highest quality of life.”

Practices participating in the care model will provide treatment following nationally recognized clinical guidelines for beneficiaries undergoing chemotherapy, with an emphasis on person-centered care. They will provide enhanced services to beneficiaries in the care model to help them receive timely, coordinated treatment.

The Oncology Care Model is one of the first CMS physician-led specialty care models. As part of this model, physician practices may receive performance-based payments for episodes of care surrounding chemotherapy administration to Medicare patients with cancer as well as a monthly care management payment for each beneficiary.
