AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz is to address a public policy conference sponsored by the conservative Texas Public Policy Foundation.

The group closes a three-day convention in Austin where it touted its policy positions to Texas lawmakers and policymakers.

Cruz has garnered national attention with fierce rhetoric condemning the Obama administration and the federal health care overhaul.

On Thursday, Cruz blasted President Barack Obama for setting up what the president called “Promise Zones” to fight poverty. One of those zones is in San Antonio. Cruz said Obama should treat the entire country as a “Promise Zone.”

The Texas Public Policy Foundation promotes conservative causes at the Legislature and drafts plans for solving what they consider the largest problems facing the state.
