Dallas and Fort Worth substance abuse programs merge

The boards of directors for Recovery Resource Council in Fort Worth and the Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse in Dallas have approved the merger of the two organizations.

Discussions about the merger began after Debbie Meripolski, CEO of the Dallas Council for 20 years, announced her intention to retire. The Oct. 25 decision was effective immediately.

Both organizations share the mission to prevent youth substance use and promote wellness and recovery from alcohol, substance misuse and behavioral health issues. Together, they have 130 years of service.

“This merger builds upon the strengths of both organizations, dramatically expanding scope and capacity to create a healthier North Texas community,” Michael McMillan, chairman of the board of directors for Recovery Resource Council, said in a news release.

“By leveraging our shared programs and strengthening operations, the new Recovery Resource Council will offer enhanced services and programs, improving access to prevention, treatment, and healing for the thousands of individuals and families struggling with substance misuse and mental health issues,” McMillan said.

The merged organizations retained the name Recovery Resource Council.

The news release said the new organization will reach approximately 110,000 children, youth and adults in 19 North Texas Counties.

Eric Niedermayer, current CEO of Recovery Resource Council, was selected to lead the new $6.5 million organization with 83 staff and three office locations, Fort Worth, Dallas and Denton.
