HOUSTON (AP) — A second man who falsely claimed he was licensed to practice medicine in Texas has been sentenced to prison in a stem cell treatment scam.
A federal judge in Houston sentenced Lawrence Stowe of Moline, Ill., who formerly lived in Fort Worth, to more than six years in prison.
Stowe and Francisco Morales of Brownsville in 2012 pleaded guilty to conspiracy to introduce misbranded and unapproved new drugs into interstate commerce. Prosecutors say Morales sold an unapproved stem cell drug product to Stowe, knowing Stowe would sell the item to patients.
Morales in January was sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to pay nearly $480,000 in restitution. Stowe on Friday was sentenced to 78 months in prison and ordered to repay more than $419,000.
