Is Your Child’s Physical Development on Track?

(StatePoint) All children develop at their own pace. Sometimes however, a child may not do certain activities that other children the same age are doing — like sitting without support, rolling over, walking or other physical skills. Parents may question whether their child has a physical developmental delay.

How can you tell if your child’s physical development is on track?

Free online tools and guides can be a good start. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) offers an interactive tool called “Physical Developmental Delays: What to Look For,” available at healthychildren.org/motordelay. Available in English and Spanish, this interactive tool helps parents learn more about their child’s physical development, and how to talk to their child’s pediatrician about their concerns.

A physical developmental delay can be a sign of a serious health condition, so it’s important to discuss your concerns with your child’s pediatrician and get help as needed.
