John Peter Smith Hospital, Sound Physicians announce agreement

John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth will receive hospitalist services through a newly announced agreement with Sound Physicians of Tacoma, Wash., which provides those services and specializes in the financial performance of inpatient health care delivery.

Hospitalist services involve physician care for patients while they are hospitalized.

Under the agreement, Sound Physicians will provide hiring and management services for the hospitalist team at John Peter Smith by introducing informatics infrastructure, hospitalist team leadership and evidence-based processes to improve the quality and reduce the cost of health care.

“Our team is aligned with JPS Health Network’s mission of transforming health care delivery in the communities we serve,” said Robert Bessler, M.D., chief executive officer of Sound Physicians in a news release.

“We are excited to partner with John Peter Smith Hospital in this effort,” Bessler said.

John Peter Smith Hospital is the inpatient arm of JPS Health Network. With 537 licensed beds, John Peter Smith Hospital includes the county’s only Level I Trauma Center and only psychiatric emergency department.

Bill Whitman, JPS Health Network’s chief operating officer, commended the agreement.

“Sound Physicians shares our vision of being a national leader in improving the patient experience and the quality of health care. We are confident that our patients and their families will benefit greatly from Sound Physicians’ expertise,” Whitman said.

Working with the JPS leadership team, Sound Physicians will introduce its SoundConnect workflow and communications platform and processes to drive improvements in inpatient care outcomes, as well as financial performance.
