HOUSTON (AP) — More than 207,000 Texans have used the federal website to purchase health insurance under President Barack Obama’s overhaul.
According to data released Wednesday by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services 207,546 Texans have chosen insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act since enrollment began on Oct. 1. Of those who signed up, 56 percent are women and 44 percent are men. About 79 percent are eligible for a subsidy. These numbers reflect enrollment through Feb. 1.
Texas is among more than two dozen states that have chosen not to run their own websites. Of those states, only Florida has had more residents enroll for health insurance in the federal marketplace.
Texas has the highest rate of uninsured in the nation, about one in four.
