SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — A hospital in Syracuse, New York is paying dog-adoption fees to improve heart health for humans.
The Post-Standard says St. Joseph’s Health is making the offer through February at two rescue organizations.
It cites studies that show having a dog can lower blood pressure and stress levels, reduce the chance of a heart attack and provide other health benefits.
A St. Joseph’s Health cardiologist, Dr. Matthew O’Hern, concedes that not everybody is able to have a dog.
So St. Joseph’s is also covering adoption fees for some cats — another healthy lifestyle choice.
