Officials: Texas woman falsely claimed kids ill to collect money

CAMERON, Texas (AP) — Authorities say a Central Texas woman withheld food and pursued unnecessary surgical procedures for her children to convince others they were ill and solicit donations for their care.

A Milam County sheriff’s affidavit dated Monday says 28-year-old Katelyn Christina Carnline of Milano was arrested on charges that include injury to a child causing serious bodily injury.

The affidavit says Carnline used a website to plea for donations for her 4-month-old child because the infant had a rare genetic disorder.

Authorities say the malnourished infant was repeatedly hospitalized on false pretenses that included claims the child suffered seizures.

The affidavit says Carnline previously claimed another child had cancer and sought contributions to cover medical bills.

Carnline was held Wednesday in the Milam County jail.

Jail records don’t indicate an attorney for her.
