Patients evacuated from Frisco hospital following water leak

FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Portions of a suburban Dallas hospital were evacuated and dozens of patients moved to other facilities after a pipe burst and caused water to rain on the floors below.

Julie Smith, spokeswoman for Frisco’s Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Centennial, said 27 patients were moved from the hospital to other facilities after the water began leaking Wednesday evening.

Frisco municipal officials earlier had said nearly 80 patients were transferred.

Smith said Thursday that ambulances continued to be rerouted elsewhere.

Water to the four-story building was turned off after the leak was found on the third floor and water had fallen onto the floors below.

The hospital began experiencing power failure after the leak began and fire officials determined it was unsafe to use a backup generator, leading to the evacuation.
