Tarrant funeral homes to unite under one name

Three longtime Tarrant County funeral homes will start the new year with a name change.

Beginning Jan. 1, Greenwood Funeral Home, Mount Olivet Funeral Home and Arlington Funeral Home will be known under the “Greenwood Funeral Homes and Cremation” name. The individual homes will be designated by their location as Greenwood Chapel at Greenwood Memorial Park (White Settlement Road and University Drive in Fort Worth), Mount Olivet Chapel at Mount Olivet Cemetery (Sylvania Avenue and 28th Street in Fort Worth) and Arlington Chapel (Division Street and AT&T Way in Arlington).

The change is intended to consolidate the three entities within a common identity and brand, according to Arlie Davenport, general manager of the Mount Olivet Cemetery Association, the not-for-profit owner of Tarrant County’s venerable funeral home, cemetery and cremation service provider. “This is a good opportunity to unite our Fort Worth and Arlington funeral homes under the well-known and respected Greenwood name. After all these years, some people don’t fully know our three funeral homes are all part of the same century-old organization, and it just makes sense that one name is easier for families to remember than three,” Davenport said. The funeral homes’ staffs, ownership structure and prepaid funeral, cremation and burial agreements are unaffected. Davenport stressed the name change only impacts the three funeral homes; the association’s two cemeteries, Greenwood Memorial Park and Mount Olivet Cemetery, will continue to use those same names. He also announced that in early 2014 the association will open a new Arlington Crematory to serve the growing needs of that area.
