Texas Health hospitals rated A in safety

Seven Texas Health hospitals received A grades for patient safety, according to national performance measures from the latest Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, published by The Leapfrog Group, Texas Health Resources said in a news release.

The Leapfrog organization uses publicly available quality and safety measures, as well as a demonstrated strong leadership commitment to creating a safe care environment for patients, to come up with the letter grades, which range from A to F.

“At Texas Health, patient safety is our top priority, and we’re constantly working to reduce harm,” Sheri Winsper, M.S.N., R.N., MSHA, Hospital Channel chief quality officer, said in the release.

“We have numerous safety programs in place to help us reach our goal of zero harm, including Reliable Care BlueprintingTM, the Reliability Coach program and our Error Prevention Tools,” Winsper said.

Texas Health hospitals that received A grades are:

¬– Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Alliance – Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas – Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton – Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano – Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest – Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville – Texas Health Huguley Hospital Fort Worth South, a joint venture Four other Texas Health hospitals received a B rating.

Of Texas Health’s wholly owned hospitals, 46 percent achieved an A, while nationally, only 32 percent of the more than 2,600 hospitals scored were ranked A.

Texas Health Specialty Hospital and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Kaufman were not included in the ratings due to low volumes, the news release said.

Texas Health Resources is one of the largest faith-based, nonprofit health systems in the United States and has 29 hospital locations that are owned, operated, joint-ventured or affiliated with Texas Health.

Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to U.S. hospitals twice per year.
