Texas Health Resources hospitals have been recognized in a recent major national rating of hospital performance in patient experience and patient care.
One Texas Health hospital received the highest star rating and 11 earned the second highest rating in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) release of the first Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings of hospitals on its Hospital Compare website, placing the nine Texas Health hospitals in the top 25 percent of all U.S. hospitals.
“Patient safety and satisfaction are central focuses in the Texas Heath system,” said Jeffrey Canose, M.D., senior executive vice president and chief operating officer for Texas Health. “These hospital ratings are one example of quality outcomes reports that highlight the quality of care and patient experience provided by our physicians, nurses and staff.”
Hospitals receive ratings of one to five stars – with five stars being the highest score – based on their performance on selected measures from the CMS Hospital Compare website. The Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating is based on a summary of existing quality and patient experience measures including the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Survey (HCAHPS) which measure patient perspectives on the experience of care at Texas Health hospitals. In addition to patient experience, quality of care measures in the categories of Outcomes (Mortality and Safety), Process (Effectiveness and Timeliness of Care), and Efficiency (Imaging). These are based on quality measures already publicly reported by Texas Health hospitals to the Hospital Compare website.
One Texas Health hospital – Texas Health Southwest Fort Worth – received five stars, which is the highest ranking given out in the rating summary.
