City House was founded by two Plano Independent School District teachers, who were inspired by one teenager sleeping in his pickup truck, another living in a vacant building, and another bringing her clothes to school in a garbage bag.

In 1988, City House opened its doors to its first residents. What began as a six-bed shelter has grown into a four- home, 36- bed, multi-faceted agency that provides residential and non-residential services to more than 500 children, young adults and their families each year. City House provides shelter to youth from all over the state of Texas, serving primarily Collin, Dallas, Tarrant, Rockwall, Denton and Kaufman counties.

Throughout 2013, City House will celebrate 25 years of service with various events and activities, including its Silver Anniversary Gala, presented by Albertsons, on Sat., Sept. 7, at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Convention Center in Frisco.

Former Dallas Mavericks point guard and current game TV analyst Derek Harper serves as the Gala’s honorary chair. The event will include participation by some of the area’s top sports celebrities and media, and the sounds of Dallas band Emerald City. Ben & Skin from 105.3 The Fan will serve as co-emcees. City House’s efforts to help at-risk kids over the last 25 years have been exemplary and have had a huge impact on our community, Harper says. “Last year there were nearly 67,000 confirmed cases of child abuse and neglect in our state, and nearly 17,000 were right here in North Texas. City House exists to provide food, shelter, counseling, transitional living skills and most of all, hope. I’m proud to be associated with City House, and hope that many people will come out and enjoy a great evening for a good cause.” Harper currently is a TV analyst for Mavericks games.

All proceeds from the Silver Anniversary Gala will benefit City House.
