College baseball site in Texas to carry Bush name

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — A National College Baseball Hall of Fame complex planned for West Texas will be named after America’s 41st president.

Groundbreaking for the George H.W. Bush National College Baseball Hall of Fame will be held next June in Lubbock. Hall officials on Thursday announced plans to name the facility after the 89-year-old former president, who lives in Houston.

Bush played college baseball at Yale and served as team captain. His son, ex-President George W. Bush of Dallas, is a former co-owner of the Texas Rangers.

The elder Bush, in a statement, says he’s pleased the National College Baseball Hall of Fame location will carry his name and that he genuinely loves baseball.
