The Do It for Durrett Benefit Concert on Sept. 8 at Billy Bob’s Texas in the Fort Worth Stockyards raised $202,968 to support the family of sports reporter Richard Durrett. The longtime Metroplex sports journalist passed away suddenly on June 17, 2014, at the age of 38. “I don’t even know how to thank everyone,” said Emily Jones, who spearheaded the event.

“We had lofty expectations, but I doubt anyone thought we could raise more than $200,000. It’s a tribute to the kind of person Richard was that so many people chipped in and made this a night that no one will soon forget.” Top country artists at the benefit included Randy Rogers, Wade Bowen and Casey Donahew. Current Texas Rangers helping add to the coffers were Derek Holland, Colby Lewis, Tanner Scheppers, Michael Kirkman, Robbie Ross and Daniel Robertson. Rangers General Manager Jon Daniels, along with assistant general manager Thad Levine, also made an appearance. Former Rangers Michael Young attended as well as Dallas Stars Hall of Famer Mike Modano, whose foundation was one of the sponsors.

All proceeds from the Do It for Durrett Benefit Concert will go to the Richard Durrett Family Fund. -Betty Dillard bdillard@bizpress.net
