MIAMI (AP) — Former Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio is set to take over as the new president and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
The organization announced its new leader on Friday.
Iorio served as Tampa’s mayor from 2003-2011. A news release from Big Brothers Big Sisters of America noted some of Iorio’s accomplishments while in office. Those included working with diverse communities and leaders, revitalizing downtown Tampa, improving neighborhoods, reducing crime and bringing fiscal soundness to her city. As part of her Mayor’s Mentoring Program, she partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters and offered employees paid time off to mentor kids.
Iorio will replace Charles Pierson. The Irving-based organization’s news release says Pierson has resigned for personal reasons.
Iorio begins new position on March 31.
