Girl Scouts announces 2018 Women of Distinction Honorees

Inaugural male recipient to be recognized with “Man Enough to be a Girl Scout” Award

Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains has announced it’s honorees for the Fort Worth Women of Distinction awards, which include its first male recipient.

Each year, women leaders are presented with awards in recognition of their leadership and service in the community. The inauguration of the “Man Enough to be a Girl Scout” award, 2018 marks the first year a man will be honored at the event, a press release says.

The Women of Distinction event will honor five individuals:

Discover Award: Heather Stark, Founder, Gracefully Strong. The recipient of this award demonstrates exceptional understanding of herself and her values. She uses this knowledge in every way possible to help girls and women explore and discover themselves and their world.

Connect Award: J.R. Labbe, Vice President Communications, JPS Health Network. The recipient of this award demonstrates exceptional leadership in connecting with others to create solutions in our community and beyond to make the world a better place.

Take Action Award: Shay Dial Johnson, Vice President, Community Engagement, Goodwill Industries of Fort Worth. The recipient of this award serves our communities and advances the quality of life and opportunities so vital to the development and support of women leadership.

Lifetime Achievement Award: Marilyn Nance, Girl Scouts Troop leader. The recipients of this award have dedicated their lives to serving in the interest and support of women leadership.

Man Enough to be a Girl Scout Award: Brian E. Happel, Fort Worth Market CEO, BBVA Compass. This award is given to a local male business leader who support the development of girls through Girl Scouting.

The five honorees will be recognized at the Women of Distinction luncheon on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, 11:30 a.m. at the Fort Worth Club. The event will be emceed by Deborah Ferguson, morning anchor, NBC-5, and will feature Olympic gold medalist Dana Vollmer as its keynote speaker. Proceeds from the event benefit programs for Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains.
