Fort Worth-based Higginbotham, an independent insurance and financial services company with offices and affiliates throughout Texas, announced June 14 a merger with Sawyer Insurance Agency in its Dallas office. The merger will give Higginbotham added capacity for personal insurance services to high net worth individuals in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The union with Higginbotham, the second largest independent insurance firm by revenue in Texas, enables Sawyer Insurance to offer its 1,900 clients broader services and coverage options through access to more carriers and internal resources. Mike Sawyer opened his namesake agency in 1975. Based in Richardson, Sawyer and two insurance professionals provide personal and commercial coverage to clients owning property in the U.S. and abroad. At Higginbotham, Sawyer will retain current clientele and focus his group’s practice on producing personal home, auto and liability accounts. “We’ve built the agency’s reputation on individualized concierge service,” Sawyer said. “Higginbotham’s superior size, knowledge and market relationships give us more opportunities to nurture that reputation and spread it to new clients.” With the merger, Sawyer Insurance will adopt the Higginbotham name. On June 24, the agency will move from 1202 Richardson Dr. to Higginbotham’s office at 12720 Hillcrest Road where it intersects Interstate Highway 635. Higginbotham, established in 1948, provides businesses and individuals with a single source solution for comprehensive insurance, risk management and employee benefit services. The firm is expanding its operations by adding complementary independent brokerages to its group, which has grown to 19 offices and 539 employees across Texas. Higginbotham entered the Dallas market in 1999 by opening what was then its third branch office. Higginbotham President/CEO Rusty Reid said, “Partnering with agencies like Sawyer Insurance is what has allowed Higginbotham to widen our practice and become a single source provider, yet maintain personalized service. They bring additional expertise to our Dallas office, which collaborates with all our offices to offer the best coverage and customer service across the board.” Higginbotham ranks as one of the nation’s 40 largest independent insurance brokerage firms based on revenue (Business Insurance, July 2012).
