Newsmakers: Cooksey receives awards

Cooksey Communications recently received three Platinum Awards and one Gold Award in the 2019 dotCOMM Awards, an international competition. This awards program is unique in that it spotlights the important role of creative professionals in constantly evolving web, social media and digital platforms, Cooksey said in a news release.

The four awards highlight Cooksey’s diverse and successful experience in using growing digital public relations, marketing and advertising tools, the release said.

• Platinum – Digital Marketing & Communications Campaign – Digital Advertising. Cooksey designed an eye-catching digital ad campaign promoting EltaMD sun care products as the “#1 Dermatologist-recommended Professional Sunscreen Brand.”

• Platinum – Earned Media – Article or News Placement. As part of an overall media outreach strategy, Cooksey secured an online article and photo gallery in Cowboys & Indians magazine, “Cocktail Recipes: Texican Court’s Summer Poptails.” The retro-inspired Texican Court in Irving’s Las Colinas Urban Center premiered its popular summer poptails over Memorial Day weekend.

• Platinum – Earned Media – Blog Placement. Cooksey provided insight for a blog post, “Why Corporate Social Responsibility Matters in Commercial Real Estate,” written for D CEO Magazine’s online commercial real estate expert opinion site by Jackson-Shaw President and COO Michele Wheeler. The article addressed how corporate social responsibility should be woven thoughtfully into the fabric of every company and included three ways to engage internal teams.

• Gold – Video – Marketing (Service). Cooksey showcased its significant experience handling high-stakes communications issues and projects for cities across Texas in a video shown at the 2019 Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO) Annual Conference. The video was developed in-house by Cooksey’s talented Creative team.

CONSTRUCTION

W.G. Yates & Sons Construction Company has hired Michael Perry as project executive to support continued growth in North Texas. Perry will work in the Fort Worth office. Bringing more than 20 years of construction project experience to Yates, Perry is responsible for operational oversight, client relationships and ultimately, project success. Among other experience, Perry was with the Lewisville Independent School District for eight years as executive director of bond construction. He graduated from Purdue University, West Lafayette, In., with a bachelor of science in civil engineering degree in 1997.

ENGINEERING

Atwell LLC has added Jim Bieda as project engineer. Based in Atwell’s Dallas-Fort Worth office, Bieda is responsible for providing broad engineering and project management support to the oil and gas team for midstream and processing projects.

EDUCATION

The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) has elected Jacinto Ramos Jr. to fill an interim position on the TASB Board of Directors, representing TASB Region 11, Position B.

Ramos is president of the Fort Worth ISD Board of Education. Ramos also is president-elect of the Mexican American School Boards Association and chair of the National School Boards Association’s Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE).

Ramos is a member of the Council of the Great City Schools, National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials, and Center for Reform of School Systems. He is part of the Texas Education Consortium for Male Students of Color, where he is the only Texas school board member on the advisory team.

He is a certified probation officer in the state of Texas, currently working in Tarrant County. He also is a former co-director of the Multicultural Alliance’s Camp CommUNITY and an affiliate of Courageous Conversations About Race.

Ramos has a degree in criminal justice and criminology from the University of Texas at Arlington and a master’s degree in family studies from Amberton University. He is currently working on his doctorate in educational leadership and administration.

TASB is a nonprofit association established in 1949 to serve local public school boards. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 5.3 million students.

NONPROFITS

Methodist Justice Ministry (MJM) has added Melanie Hanna as director of development.

Hanna has 19 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising and development, including Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Brite Divinity School, Texas Christian University and March of Dimes.

She holds a bachelor’s degree from Texas Christian University and volunteers with Junior League of Fort Worth and the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.

Hanna will spearhead the ongoing advancement of MJM’s mission, vision and core values to provide light and hope to families who have experienced neglect and domestic violence by providing free legal representation and ongoing support to ensure that the children are with a caring and protective caregiver, a news release said.

RETAIL

Colby Welanetz has been appointed general manager at the Ridgmar Mall owned by GK Development Inc. Welanetz brings over six years of retail property management to this new role. As general manager, he will be responsible for the daily operations of Ridgmar Mall, build professional working relationships with the center’s retailers and ensure an enjoyable shopping experience for mall-goers. Welanetz earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Portland State University in Oregon. He is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree with a finance concentration at the University of Dallas.
