The sixth annual North Texas Giving Day exceeded its own national giving day record on Sept. 18 by raising more than $26.3 million in 18 hours More than 98,000 donations – which exceeded last year’s total of 75,000 – surpassed 2013 results by more than $1 million. This year, 1,580 nonprofits benefited. From 6 a.m. to midnight, donations poured in from all 50 states, six territories and more than 28 countries. Twenty-six percent of donations were from first-time givers to their chosen charity.
“Wow! Today, donors showed unbridled enthusiasm for this community they clearly care so much about,” said Brent Christopher, president and CEO of Communities Foundation of Texas, which founded and presents North Texas Giving Day. “From Keller to Kenya, Arlington to Australia, Dallas to Denmark, local nonprofits received gifts from all over the world at a pace of 18 gifts per second,” he said. Since 2009, $86 million has been raised for area nonprofits on North Texas Giving Day.
