Arlington City Council to consider GM project for former Six Flags Mall site

The Arlington City Council on Tuesday, June 13 is expected to vote on a 10-year property tax abatement for the former Six Flags Mall property that General Motors will use to build industrial and/or manufacturing buildings for suppliers.

The development will be called the Arlington Logistics Center, built by NP Arlington Industrial, LLC. One building will be 550,000 square feet in size and the other 700,000 square feet in size, totaling 1.2 million square feet The tenants will be companies that manufacture components for the GM plant, according to city documents.

General Motors, as tenant of the two new industrial buildings, will house various automotive manufacturing suppliers that will serve the nearby General Motors plant. The project should be completed by December 2018.

The Tax Abatement and Chapter 380 Agreement with NP Arlington Industrial, LLC will allow for a 100 percent abatement of ad valorem taxes on value above the current base real property value for ten years. The agreement will also allow for a grant totaling $6 million paid out in increments upon the developer reaching certain development milestones. In addition, the agreement allows for the contribution of public infrastructure improvements to the project by thecCity, with a cost not to exceed $2 million.
